Good morning!
Welcome to my little white cottage. My name is
Marissa and I’ve been a domestic engineer for 23 years now. I enjoy beauty, order
and cleanliness, and my husband enjoys good food. I’ve never been one to say I
enjoy cooking but over the last couple of decades I’ve definitely learned to do
it and do it well. My goal in writing this blog is threefold.
First, I’d like to share a bit of décor and organization. I’ve
recently moved into a tiny, older home and it comes with challenges, for sure.
There are issues of space and storage, but also I require a certain level of beauty
and style in my environment. Then there are the challenges of entertaining
guests whether it be our married children and grandchildren or a cocktail
dinner with friends. I hope to share some beauty and inspiration with you here.
Secondly, I am inspired by the housewives of my
grandmother’s era. The 1940s and 50s housewives were all at once beautiful and
hardworking. Just how beautiful is my precious Grandma Margie in this photo
from the 1950s!
They took care of their homes and filled them with order and
life and peace. They took care of themselves, curling and pinning up their hair
and wearing their day dresses even for the so-called mundane daily chores. They
took care of their children and husbands in a way that we seem to be losing
touch with. You may see me serve my husband a cold beer or bourbon with his
pipe on the porch as he arrives home, and I will probably serve a dinner plate
to his place at the table while he relaxes a moment. If you stepped into my home
you may hear music from that era as well.
Finally, I hope to share some inspiration and positive
thoughts. Our life has crashed and burned at times and we have walked a less
than perfect path but as long as we’re alive there is always something
beautiful to be thankful for. I hope to share tiny glimpses of positive energy
and grace to encourage you along your way.
I hope you find beauty here. I hope that this glimpse into
my little white cottage will bring a spot of joy to your week or a spark of
inspiration as you seek to bring peace and order and style into your home.
